Why Prioritising Wellbeing Makes You a Better Leader

Let's talk about hustle culture. In today's fast-paced world, hustle mentality has been glorified too many times. Working long hours, being constantly connected online, and prioritising work above all else are often seen as badges of honour. But, what if this relentless drive is hindering your productivity and your effectiveness as a leader?

The High Cost of Hustle:

Constant stress takes a toll on both our physical and mental health. It can lead to:

  • Impaired Decision-Making: When under too much pressure, we struggle to focus and process information clearly and this can lead to quick decisions and missed opportunities.

  • Limited Creativity: Stress stifles creative thinking. When we're constantly on edge, generating new ideas and solving problems can be difficult.

  • Emotional Exhaustion: When we're experiencing burnout our emotions are heavily affected. Our empathy is so low that our interactions with other people can be callous and insensitive, damaging relationships.

  • Absenteeism and Presenteeism: Chronic stress can lead to both increased sick leaves and presenteeism, where we're present but mentally disengaged.

What do all of these point out?

A stressed-out leader is not an effective leader.

What do you need?

It's simple, to pause & prioritise yourself.

To be an effective leader, you have to feel balanced in body and mind.

Start here:

  • Set Boundaries: Set a definite line with your professional and personal life. Disconnect after work hours.

  • Sleep:  A routine of 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night is vital in keeping you in good shape mentally.

  • Mindfulness and Exercise: Regular exercise and mindfulness practices can significantly reduce stress levels.

  • Delegate & Empower: As a leader, you simply cannot do it all alone. Delegate tasks to your team. Empower them and build their confidence in completing their assigned tasks.
